3 Helpful QR Code Secrets
Like dandelions blooming in springtime, QR codes seem to be popping up everywhere. In fact, QR codes can even be found on flower pot labels! QR codes are widely used to communicate product information and direct smartphone users directly to a company's website, but QR codes have more uses than marketing. Here are three QR code secrets that can make sharing data easy.
Add a Contact
Somewhere beneath the abstract-looking QR code is precious data. This can include your personal contact information. And unlike a 3.5" x 2" card, you can actually fit a decent amount of contact info - more so than you could with legible text.. It is even becoming more common to print QR codes on business cards for this very purpose.
Traditional business cards are kept inside your wallet until you remember to pull them out and add the information to your phone line-by-line. With the contact information in the QR code, you can scan the code with your phone and instantly add the information to your contact list. Use your phone's barcode/qr scanner app to scan the code and behold, a new contact is born!
Give and Receive Directions
You will see QR codes on many advertisements for businesses and events directing you to the location of interest. QR codes provide more than a simple street address, they are designed to save the location on a map application. And with the address entered in the map, a QR code can work with GPS navigation for easy directions. You can even make your own QR codes directing a customer to your business and include your contact information as well.
Wi-Fi Login
It is great to use complicated Wi-Fi passwords for network security, but it is difficult to pass out long security keys to users. You can include all of your Wi-Fi network information in a QR code and make logging in easy. Simply scan the code and you are granted access to the network. You can also use the QR code as a solution to quickly login to your own network, or as a security measure to pass out login information to the public for Wi-Fi hotspots.
QR codes have come a long way from their inception on an automotive assembly line in 1994. When QR codes were used to categorize car parts, it improved the production speed. Now QR codes are used to improve everyday tasks and have shown a versatility that will lead to them popping up in new and surprising places.
